Board of Public Works & Safety
The Board of Public Works & Safety is the City's contracting body. The Board is made up of the Mayor and two Mayoral appointees. The Board approves all City expenditures, contracts and claims. It also oversees the operations of the various City departments and the Municipal Utilities.

UNSAFE BUILDING COMMITTEE
The City of Butler Board of Public Works & Safety also serves as the Unsafe Building Committee.
The Unsafe Building Committee reviews "Orders to Repair" and "Orders to Demolish" that have issued by the City Zoning Administrator for dilapidated properties. The Committee can affirm, modify or rescind such orders after hearing the evidence presented during the hearing. The Committee may continue such hearings to a later date to allow for further research and / or to negotiate any modifications to such orders.
Committee meetings/hearings are held as needed, with proper notification per I.C. 5-3-1. Typically, advertised hearings are held prior to the regularly scheduled Board of Works meetings, which are held at 6:30 PM on the first and third Mondays of each month.
